Fortaleza Fortaleza is the state capital of Ceará in north-eastern Brazil. The city is located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The city has a population of over 2.5 million inhabitants. The city was founded in 1649 as Fort Clean Borch by the Dutch WIC. After the Portuguese conquered it was renamed Forte de Nossa Senhora da Assunção.
Until the early 19th century Fortaleza remained small, but with the export of cotton to Great Britain and coffee beans to France it grew into a bustling town with European ambience.

Rio de Janeiro Rio de Janeiro or Rio is a municipality and the capital of the state in south-eastern Brazil. The city lies on a wide bay, Baía de Guanabara and it was the capital of Brazil until 1960. The city is famous for its crowded beaches like Copacabana and Ipanema, the giant statue of Christ the Redeemer, the 710 meters high Corcovado. Rio is also famous for its slums, called favelas. Rio de Janeiro is home to four soccer clubs at the highest level. The Maracanã is one of the largest football stadiums in the world. The exuberant carnival is celebrated yearly visited by thousands of tourists.
The most famous beaches are Copacabana, Ipanema and Barra da Tijuca, which especially the last emerging. Copacabana and Ipanema are world famous and are located close together. Copacabana Beach is 4 kilometers long and is shaped like a crescent. The Ipanemastrand and the surrounding neighbourhood is also one of the safest in Rio thanks to the many police. Tijucawoud is a rainforest in the middle of the city of Rio de Janeiro Tijuca district.
