3-day trip Fernando de Noronha
Ask a Brazilian his favourite holiday destination in his own country and he will immediately reply Fernando de Noronha. This archipelago approximately 340 kilometres from the mainland coast is the dream destination above all others. This small island group has been designated a national park that has stunning nature – on land and in the crystal clear sea, viewed from your plane as you approach Fernando. From nowhere, the stunning 322 metre high rock formation Morro do Pico comes into view, a perfect location to stand for a great view of the island in any direction. It’s like a Garden of Eden, created by God for his own pleasure. At any rate it is not the place for mass tourism, because that is not allowed here. Each night only a limited number of people can sleep over. So it never becomes busy on Fernando, which is ideal if, for example, this is the place you wish to wander arm in arm down a beautiful deserted beach on your honeymoon....The most important tourism and ecological attractions of Fernando de Noronha are to be found not on land, however, but in water. The island group boasts 17 of the best locations in Brazil for diving, over coral reefs and ship wrecks, amongst dolphins, sharks, mantas, barracudas, sea turtles and murenes, as well as countless other stunningly-coloured tropical fish. Those without a diving certificate need not worry, because under expert tuition you can make your first dive or simply from a glass-bottomed boat do some snorkelling in the natural swimming pool teaming with tropical fish close to the beach. The highlight of your stay on Fernando de Noronha is the ‘obligatory’ boat trip along the dolphin bay where at a set time each day as many as 400 bottle-nosed dolphins appear for their daily hunt for fish. Once experienced, never forgotten.
