Day 1 Arrival at Fortaleza Airport and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2: Journey from Fortaleza to Ubajara Driving through the remote landscape brings us first to the town of Caninde where you will discover the tallest statue in Brazil – a statue of Saint Francis. At the end of each September Caninde is home to one of the biggest Jesuitical pilgrimages in the world, but throughout the whole year here you will come across people in search of miracles. At around midday we arrive in Ubajara; lying on the plateau of Ipiapaba you will experience a very diverse landscape full of natural features such as the transatlantic rainforest, agriculture, waterfalls and grottos. Here in Ubajara you will have the opportunity to lunch in a typically Brazilian restaurant and then to check into your hotel. In the afternoon we will walk through the rain forest close to your hotel. Keep a good look out for monkeys and many other kinds of animals. After this fascinating walk you will find yourself back at your hotel for early evening, where dinner is served (inclusive).
Day 3: Exploring Ubajara and Parnaiba The morning programme starts with a visit to the Ubajara park. You will take a cable car ride to the grottos, where a local guide will take you on a tour. After lunch (included) we will head for the village of Viçosa do Ceara, where you will get spectacular views of the many surrounding valleys. We will then take you to the home of the Miranda family, where you can sample as many as of the 60 kinds of liqueurs that are produced on the family farm as you can manage. From Viçosa do Ceara we will travel to the Delta of Parnaiba, where you can discover the River Parnaiba and the once so important town of Parnaiba. In the evening you have the option of a guided trip to search for crocodiles in one of the tributaries of the Parnaiba river – a unique experience! At night time you won’t just be able to spot crocodiles, but also many iguanas and night birds perched on the branches of the many trees lining the river banks.
Day 4 Boat trip across the Delta After an extensive breakfast in your hotel, you will be taken to the boat which will ferry you across the Parnaiba Delta. On the journey you will see various islands within this third-largest delta in the world and with the help of the local guide you will be able to catch mangrove crabs between the many mangrove trees. We will stop half way at a sand dune from the top of which you will get a fascinating bird’s eye view of the immense area covered by the delta. After lunch (inclusive) we will head in the direction of Jericoacoara, one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world. The normal road goes as far as the small village of Jijoca (about one hour from Jericoacoara), after which we will ride in pick-up trucks on sand paths and around sand dunes towards Jericoacoara, an exciting and breathtaking trek. You will have the evening to experience Jericoacoara at your own pace or to join your guide for dinner in one of the excellent small restaurants. The population of Jericoacoara is around 2,500 who live along five streets with no made-up roads or street lighting: you will feel as though time has stood still.
Day 5 Relaxing in Jericoacoara This is the opportunity to simply relax in Jeri or you can set off with your guide to catch sea horses or ride through the local landscape in well-built buggies (optional). The buggies will bring you to the ´bounty´ beaches, fascinating lagoons and ‘running’ dunes. Your guide is sure to find things to surprise you. At the end of the afternoon the tradition in Jeri is to enjoy the sunset from the top of the sand dune opposite the village. In the evening you will accompany your guide to a dine at one of the cosy little restaurants (inclusive) and you will be able to discover the night life of Jericoacoara, which is famous in Brazil for its good natured hospitality.
Day 6 Walk and return to Jericoacoara During the morning you will walk with your guide to the site from which the most famous postcard views of Jericoacoara are taken: the Pedra Furada – a unique rock less than an hour’s walk from Jericoacoara.
